The Denver Astronomical Society 2021 Executive Board Election wrapped up at 9 p.m. on February 26, during the February Annual Meeting, with both the meeting and the election held online. For the first time, members were able to vote even if they did not attend the meeting itself. Also, for the first time in recent memory, there was a heated race for an officer position. July Candia was elected to the Vice President office, defeating two other strong candidates, Ken Sturrock and James Galey. In what may be another first as well, three of the four officer positions will be filled by women. Dena McClung was elected president, and Nadine Ramirez was elected as secretary, a position she has filled for the last eight months since it was vacated in June.
The treasurer position was left unfilled. Scott Perrin, who previously held the post and has done much work revamping the position, is moving away. However, a member who indicated interest after the nominations were closed is highly qualified and may be selected by the e-board at the next meeting to fill the position. Stay tuned for that news. The new board will be seated at the March General Meeting on Zoom, in lieu of the March banquet.
