Join the Denver Astronomical Society and get involved with our mission to promote the enjoyment and understanding of astronomy to the people of Colorado, and beyond. With the membership you’re enrolled in numerous benefits, including:
- Access to dark skies! Anytime access to the Kline-Dodge Dark Site near Deer Trail, CO, for observing & imaging. New members may use the dark site but must first receive an orientation from a Dark Sky Committee member on a Dark Sky (new moon) Weekend to use all facilities independently.
- Hone your observing skills! Participate in Messier marathons, star parties, member in-reach workshops and other activities.
- Access to several club-owned loaner telescopes for personal observing. Requires 1 month of membership, or three months for more advanced equipment.
- Learn more about astronomy and CCD imaging! Contact with numerous experienced amateur astronomers through educational monthly meetings, the forums on our member portal, and public outreach activities.
- Fun social activities. Get to know more than 1200 fellow Colorado amateur and professional astronomers! Events occur throughout the year, including a summer picnic, a holiday party in December, and an annual banquet in March.
- Free access to the DAS Member Portal, opened in October 2018. Participate in member forums; learn about DAS events, including member and guest parties and banquets; browse member astronomical images; receive notices of DAS activities and publications; manage your membership.
- Checkout privileges for the extensive and historic collection of books and periodicals in the Chamberlin Observatory library.
- Participation in public education programs, providing observing opportunities, multimedia presentations, and speakers at Chamberlin Observatory and for Front Range schools and civic groups; Space Day in the spring, Colorado Astronomy Day in the fall.
- Automatic membership in the Astronomical League, which offers:
- Subscription to The Reflector, the AL’s quarterly magazine

- Special member rate for the annual ALCON conference
- Recognition of your observing/imaging achievements and public outreach activities through access to the AL’s observing clubs, public outreach, and Master Observer programs
- Knowledge that you are supporting amateur astronomy and public education through national outreach activities
All memberships are due to renew annually on the date that each member joined the society.
Regular (Individual) Membership: Adult members who join on an individual basis pay $36 per year.
Dual/Family Membership: Couples and heads of household pay $60 per year. These are referred to as “Bundle” memberships, and are limited to 8 members in one’s immediate family. Two people from each of these memberships are eligible to vote in our annual election.
Student Membership: Students from pre-K through college pay $12 per year. Once a student has finished their education, we expect them to change to a Regular membership.
