2024 New Member Orientation

Are you a new member of the Denver Astronomical Society?
Are you feeling lost and wondering how to begin your journey with DAS?
Do you want to know more about your membership benefits?

DAS is one of the largest astronomical societies in the country, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you first join. This meeting will be the first New Member Orientation of 2024, and we hope to make it a triannually-recurring event for years to come. Member engagement makes DAS the most enjoyable, and we want to welcome you and introduce you to the many opportunities that await you at DAS.

The meeting will be held at DU’s historic Chamberlin Observatory

At this orientation, you will learn more about the following:

  • the Kline-Dodge Dark Sky site
  • our telescope loaner program
  • our Astronomy 101 program for new amateur sky watchers
  • monthly star parties at Sandstone Ranch Open Space Park
  • Astrophotography Special Interest Group (ASIG)
  • DIY telescope-making with the Makers Special Interest Group (MakerSIG)
  • Special Members in-Reach presentations
  • Programs for our youth astronomers
  • Volunteering with our outreach programs (hint: you don’t need to be an expert or own a telescope!)
  • Our Van Nattan-Hanson-Anderson scholarship program
