This event is for people who want to capture the beauty of the galaxies that are excellent targets in our night skies in June. If you’ve never looked at them, bring your telescope or even just your binoculars and learn where the best ones are located. If you have an astrophotography setup but haven’t used it on galaxies before, bring it for this event and learn what works best. And, of course, experienced astrophotographers are welcome! Once your equipment is set up, we’ll head indoors for a PowerPoint presentation and Q&A with Tommy Lease, one of the DAS’s astrophotography special interest group’s monthly meeting leaders. Tommy will assist attendees with their setups and get their pictures when it’s dark.
NOTES: Please plan to arrive at the gate no later than 8:15 p.m. The gate will be closed then, and you cannot enter. Please leave home EARLY if this is your first time traveling to Sandstone Ranch. Recent guests noted that it was a lot farther away than they thought! You’re also welcome to bring food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. Indoor restrooms or porta potties will be available. Questions can be emailed to info@denverastro.org.
Also, the gate will be OPEN for Check-In at 6:30 p.m. and CLOSE promptly at 8:15 p.m. IF YOU CANNOT ARRIVE BEFORE 8:15 p.m., DO NOT SIGN UP. Late arrivals have frequently gotten lost and strayed onto the wrong property, and we cannot risk this happening again!
The guest list will be finalized on Thursday, June 6, at which point we will email everyone on it with an address and specific driving instructions to the entry point for Sandstone Ranch and the waiver. If this is your first time visiting the Ranch, you must sign and date the waiver and bring it.
Note of Caution: DO NOT USE your GPS to go to “Sandstone Ranch.” There are several places with that name, and you will not get to the right location! Use the address we sent you, look for the sharp turn in the satellite map, and look for that “house number” on one of the big posts at the gate.
