In the past 25 years, NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has made profound discoveries and contributed invaluable information about our high energy Universe. Take a tour through some of the most energetic sights, 3D prints to touch, and sonification to hear of Chandra’s discoveries. Starting from stellar nurseries and moving to exploded stars, black holes, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, experience how we translate information about Chandra’s exciting universe into images, time-lapse movies, virtual reality applications, and even sound.

About Dr. Kimberly Arcand:

Dr. Kimberly Arcand is a leading expert in astronomy visualization and has been a pioneer in 3D imaging, printing, and extended reality applications with astrophysics data. She has worked for NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory since 1998. Her current projects include sonification of spatial data, machine learning as applied to image processing, screen-based holograms, and other intersections of emerging technology and astrophysics. She has co-written eight non-fiction science books, including two science-related children’s books. Arcand and her team’s work has been featured recently in the New York Times, Washington Post, BBC, CBC, LA Times, and other popular media outlets.
