DAS General Meeting: NASA’s Juno Mission to Jupiter, Chamberlin Observatory Open House (star party), Spica, Altair, Vega, Arcturus, North American Nebula, star charts, and more!
The attached image from Stellarium-web.org shows the expected sky at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, as seen from Chamberlin Observatory (39.67605 -104.95297). At this moment, the Moon is nearing Spica along the ecliptic in the constellation Virgo, one of the 20 brightest stars in the sky. Arcturus, the 4th brightest star, is slightly north near the meridian, an imaginary line drawn over your head from the north to the south horizons. Also visible are the stars Altair and Vega. The North American Nebula sits northeast in the constellation Cygnus. In the constellation Cancer sits the Beehive Cluster (M44), a cluster of roughly 1000 stars that was one of the first objects studied by Galileo in his telescope.
