Our External Outreach Team is looking for a Co-Coordinator!

DAS’s External Outreach Team has been very busy this year, and that activity level is expected to continue for the foreseeable future! We need a volunteer co-coordinator to work with our existing coordinator.

About the External Outreach Program:
Denver Astronomical Society supports outside, independent educational astronomy and observing activities. We help organize educational star parties for school, church, civic, corporate, and other public and private events. DAS provides telescope operators, docents, and speakers for lectures on astronomy.

Here are some of the responsibilities of the position:
• Receive emails about Outreach requests and communicate with the public
• Schedule, gather volunteers, and support events when possible
• Tasks will be shared with the other co-coordinator

If this is something you can help with, send an email to
outreach@denverastro.org

The DAS always seeks volunteers to fill various roles throughout the year. To help out, volunteers must be members in good standing. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please email us at volunteers@denverastro.org.

We’re looking for people to:

  • Help operate the 20-inch, 1894 Clark-Saegmuller telescope at Chamberlin Observatory for our Public Nights and Open House events (training required).
  • Present at Public Nights by giving an astronomy talk for our guests while the telescope operators find objects in the sky to share.
  • Volunteer with your telescope at Open House events on the lawn at the Chamberlin Observatory.
  • Sell tickets at Open House events.
  • Present at an in-reach meeting by giving an astronomy talk that will inspire others to pursue the hobby.
  • Join the Dark Site Committee members and help be responsible for collaborative decision-making and helping accomplish maintenance at our Dark Site.
  • Join the Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship Committee, help make scholarship-related decisions, and promote the scholarship.
  • Write articles for our online newsletter. Submit original stories about an astronomy adventure, a project you’ve been working on, or almost anything else astro-related that you’d like to share with our members.
  • Take compelling photographs and capture moments at DAS events, the Chamberlin Observatory, and other locations.
  • Help with videography scripting, filming, and editing. Help us turn our ideas for DAS-centric videos into reality, which will be posted on our website and YouTube channel.
  • Social Media Coordinator: Put our news and stories on the DAS Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
  • Help as a mechanical or electrical engineer, to assist at Chamberlin Observatory with telescope and other technical issues.
  • Assist with a variety of administrative tasks to make the society run smoothly.

If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please email us at volunteers@denverastro.org.
